Your Sanctuary in Olhão

Your home for this experience is a beautifully restored boutique hotel, dating back to 1870 and thoughtfully designed to inspire peace, connection, and renewal. Located in the heart of Olhão’s historic center, the hotel is surrounded by cobbled streets, whitewashed fishermen’s homes, and a vibrant local culture waiting to be explored.

Activities and experiences

  • Daily morning meditation and pranayama (breathwork) followed by yoga for all levels on the rooftop.
  • Architectural tour of the historical centre of Olhão, a fishing town renowned for its cubic architecture, roof terraces and markets.
  • 14/10 intermittent fasting with a seasonal cuisine of heavenly brunches and dinners. We are all unique and there is not a one-size-fits-all way of fasting or eating. You can modify the fast to suit your unique metabolism.
  • Half day trip to a Rock Salt Mine.
  • Visit to one of the string of islands of the Ria Formosa for earthing and a silent walk.
  • Chlorine-free pool, spacious rooftop terrace, quiet indoor lounge, an art gallery and old-style Portuguese café.

Our schedules are specially created to allow you the time to pause, breathe and renew your spirit. So bring a book, your journal, that knitting you haven't had time to finish! We believe a retreat is a personal experience and the choice to opt-in our activites is yours. Our days are a promise of regeneration.

Travel Information

FLIGHT ARRANGEMENTS:

For optimal flexibility, participants are responsible for arranging their own travel to and from Portugal. Our destination, Olhão, is conveniently located a mere 15-minute drive from Faro International Airport, which is accessible throughout the year by various airlines. For those preferring to arrive via Lisbon, Lisbon International Airport, offers a straightforward 3-hour train journey to Faro. See FAQ for more travel options between Lisbon and Faro.


ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE:

- Arrive: Thursday, 16 October, from 2:00 PM

- Depart: Tuesday, 21 October. Rooms must be vacated by 12:00 PM, but guests can remain on the premises and enjoy the common spaces throughout the afternoon.

-There is a free taxi pick-up from Faro train station and International Airport to our property on arrival.

-There is free parking on the streets in Olhão, if coming by car, however, this is not very easy and some of the streets are very narrow.

Retreat activities commence at 3:30 PM on 16 October and conclude following brunch on 21 October.


VISA INFORMATION:

Travelers to Portugal must possess a passport from their country of residence, with a minimum validity of six months beyond the entry date.

For U.S. citizens, a valid passport and a return or onward ticket are sufficient for entry, without the need for a visa, for stays up to 90 days.

For UK residents passports must be issued less than 10 years before entry and valid for at least 3 months after the planned departure date. You may need to show a return or onward ticket and prove you have enough funds for your stay.

Ensure your passport is stamped upon entry and exit if you're visiting as a tourist to comply with the Schengen area's 90-day visa-free limit.

Portugal, as part of the Schengen Zone/Europe, allows members of the European Union and Switzerland to enter without a passport. It is however advisable to travel with an official National Identity card.

A little story about me

From living across two continents amidst war and peace, I've learned to make sense of the world through compassionate observation and attentive listening. I've witnessed life's intricate tapestry, connecting personal narratives to the global story, to every life form and the planet itself.


My naturopathic nutrition training revealed our bodies' intricate ecosystem and its dialogue with the environment. Understanding how our surroundings influence our essence and well-being, I was moved to act following the loss of a beloved sibling. It was a lesson in how our fates aren't sealed by circumstances but by the choices we make for our health.

My aim is to support you on your health journey giving guidance on what works best for you. To empower you to achieve optimal healthspan through the gentlest, least invasive and most natural means possible.


My retreats are not designed to be a ‘getaway from’, but rather a ‘get-into' the best way of living for you so that your life energy ripples out and swells with other life forces creating a harmonious world worth living for all.

My wife and I had a really enjoyable few days at Layo’s retreat in Monchique. I enjoyed the yin yoga and dynamic yoga sessions instructed by a great teacher who has lots of knowledge to share. The atmosphere at this outstandingly beautiful nature venue was great and I appreciated the talks, which had the character of a workshop or an open dialogue where each participant would be able to share knowledge and benefit from other people’s experiences at the same time. I have a background in health, biohacking, and longevity topics myself, but nonetheless walked out of the retreat with some valuable take-aways that enrich my own knowledge and routines.

I perceived Layo as a lovely person who cares a whole lot to create a harmonising and meaningful time for everybody and I am happy we got to know each other.

MORE TRAVEL OPTIONS BETWEEN LISBON AND FARO.

By Plane: TAP Portugal offers three flights per day between Lisbon and Faro. The flight itself is quick, around 45 minutes, but considering airport commute and procedures, the total travel time could be around 4 hours. Tickets start at €70 one way

By Car: Driving from Lisbon to Faro is another option, taking at least 3 hours for the nearly 300 kilometers journey. This allows for flexibility and the opportunity to explore the Alentejo region's attractions along the way. Car rental prices start at €10/day, but additional fees may apply for different drop-off locations. There is free street parking in Olhão. However, our residence is in the historical area where most of the streets are narrow and cobbled.

WHERE WILL I STAY?

PhiNutriomics’ Regenerative Wellness & Yoga Retreat takes place in a luxury boutique hotel situated in the historical centre of Olhão, a traditional coastal fishing town.

Located within the maze of narrow cobbled back alleys lined by picturesque whitewashed houses inspired by Moroccan architecture, it is just a short stroll from the lively waterfront, busy habour and famous iconic market.

The beautifully restored 1870 exclusive hotel is built around a light-filled white patio made up of its original arches and vaults. In the centre stands a century-old olive tree from which emanates a sense of calm that only age can give.

It is a place where tradition meets modernity and first-class modern comforts and luxury sit comfortably within thick antique walls and age-old vaults.

Facilities include:

A rooftop terrace with a view over the white cubic city, the lagoons of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, the string of sandbar islands to the south and Mount Saint Miguel to the north.

A chlorine-free pool, a yoga area and cosy sections for lounging are located on the spacious rooftop terrace.

An art gallery, dining room and living room ideal for spending quiet time to relax, commune with yourself or connect with each other.

Walter, the talented chef will delight your senses with colourful and delicious brunches. Dinner will take place communally at different locations fostering a sense of community.

WHAT IS 14/10 TIME-RESTRICTED EATING AND DO I HAVE TO DO IT?

Human evolutionary history involved periods of feast and famine. We developed genes switched on by hunger and physical stress which made our bodies work more efficiently.

This means old and malfunctioning cells and organelles are cleaned out or recycled and our metabolism is streamlined to run effectively. It’s a bit like giving your body a spring clean and regaining that bounce in your step, that vitality and alertness of the mind and that joie-de-vivre.

14/10 time-restricted eating, means during a 10-hour window you eat to your heart’s content, but healthily of course! The remaining 14 hours of the day will involve no food or drink intake except for teas, herbals and water.

12 to 14 hours of no food consumption is enough to switch those health-promoting genes on and set the spring-cleaning action in motion.

At least half of the 14 hours would be spent asleep making it easier to adjust to the pattern.

However, we are all bio-individuals and there is not a one-size-fits all way of fasting or eating. Although it is worth giving the this eating style a try during the retreat, it is more important to remain in-tune with yourself.

You may choose not to do a 14/8 time-restricted fast or it may be contra-indicated in your situation. The choice is entirely yours.

WHAT WILL I EAT AND DRINK?

Full board, brunch buffet and dinner will be plant-based. Fish and shellfish will also be served.

Seasonal, local and when possible, organic ingredients will be used.

Unlimited herbal teas.

We try to avoid any alcohol - but the choice is yours.

Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the premises.

WHAT DO I NEED AND NOT NEED TO BRING?

What to bring
• A glass or stainless steel water bottle

• Comfortable walking shoes/trainers for the walks

• Comfortable sandals or flip flops to use by the pool

• 2 sets of comfortable stretchy clothes for yoga classes, to avoid the need to wash them.

• The weather in Olhão is generally warm and sunny in October but do bring a warm shawl and/or fleece and waterproofs just in case

• Casual relaxed clothes – pack with comfort in mind

• Your journal, books and whatever else you’ve been wanting to indulge in

• Hat, Sunglasses, high-factor organic sun screen and insect repellent (just in case)

• 10 euros in cash to pay for the City Tourist Tax

• Swimwear is needed for the outdoor pool and swimming in the sea

• Plug sockets in Olhão are standard European 2-pin plugs. For any other style, please bring an adaptor.

What not to bring/wear

• Smoking is not allowed anywhere on site. You must go off-site if you wish to do so.

DO I NEED TO HAVE A GOOD YOGA OR FITNESS LEVEL?

The yoga classes are adapted to your skill and level.

The longest walk will be 3 to 4 hours maximum on easy/medium easy terrain and beaches.

There is the possibility to arrange for a personal trainer.
